Team 26 Back at Base!

The Queenstown Lakeview Holiday Park team are back on dry ground after being picked up by helicopter at around 6.30 this morning. The team of Linda Wright, Mike Johnston, Andy Beale and Dave Blundell are cold and tired but otherwise well after becoming bluffed and caught out by the weather. They have been holed up in a tent waiting for the weather to clear and the pick up to take place. The team remained in good spirits during their ordeal and had plenty of food and a cooker with them. They were also in radio contact with Southern Traverse headquarters. They have now rejoined their support crew who have been waiting anxiously at Transition Area 7 at Camp Creek for their return,

Queenstown Lakeview Holiday Park Update

Bad weather has prevented a helicopter from picking up the Queenstown Lakeview Holiday Park team who are still sheltering in a tent in the Alexandra Range after they became disoriented and conditions prevented them continuing. A search team was unable to bring them out but race director Geoff Hunt says the weather is expected to clear in the morning and a helicopter is on standby to go in and get the team. The team are in good spirits and have plenty of food with them. They also have a radio and are making contacts with Southern Traverse headquarters.

Flying Finish

Team Swazi /Triple Peaks/Capriccio (the team with the longest name) finished the Southern Traverse today at 3. 20 looking fresh and delighted to complete the main course. In pouring rain they were met along the beach by the Aussie team Hardtale.com - who leapt into the sea and ran along the beach in their speedo's. Race director Geoff Hunt also walked along the beach to accompany the final team for 2004 home.

Port Nelson Completes Traverse

Port Nelson arrived back in Hokitika to a wild and windy welcome on the beach at 2.00pm. Team Bridgedale Socks was among the reception committee and there was a lot of comparing notes over the highs and lows of the course. Team Swazi is making its way toward the finish.

Team 26 Takes Shelter

Team Queenstown Lakeview Holiday Park is currently taking shelter in their tent on the Alexander Range after bad weather in the area has prevented them from going on. The team is in radio contact with Traverse headquarters and says the visibility is very poor. They are all well and in good spirits and have a cooker and food with them.

There was a small but enthuisiastic crowd waiting inthe darkness on Hokitika Beach last night to welcome several teams at the top of the field over the finish line. Sieirra International arrived at 9.52pm (5th)followed closely by Greymouth Top 10 Seaside Holiday Park (6th)who almost crept up on the finish at 10.09pm Bridgedale Socks (7th)crossed the line at 12.37am and Focus Chartered Accountants and Fleet Cycles finished the race together at 3.22am Other teams are now paddling on the Tuamakau river following the lifting of the 6.00am curfew

Heading home

Team 25 Port Nelson and Team 13 Swazi Triple Peaks Capriccio are on their stretch home. Both teams will commence their paddle on the Taramakau this morning and head to the finish line in Hokitika.

Mainly Tramping Treks Home

Mainly Tramping has crossed the line on the Hokitika Beach arriving home at 7.17pm- putting them in fourth place on the main course. The team's support crew which includes ace athlete Jill Westenra gave them an ecstatic welcome!
